Jayden Petersen scored a second half brace and Leandro De Sousa got the opener as the University of Western Cape (UWC) made lightwork of a disorganised University of KwaZulu-Natal unit, defeating them 3-0 to make it two consecutive wins at home.

UP-Tuks (University of Pretoria) sign off Round Five with a crucial 2-1 win against Central University of Technology (CUT ) thanks to goals by Nhlanhla Mabaso and Mogau Khwinana with CUT scoring a consolation goal late in the game, courtesy of a strike by Mothusi Madilola.

Kovsies (University of Free State ) became the first team this year to beat defending Varsity Football champions Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Siphelele Ngwenya and Dylan O’ Brien were on target as Kovsies dismantled the Red Machine to win 2-0.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) lost their second game at home as North West University (NWU) beat them through a solitary goal by Mandisi Gadla in Soweto.

After round 5 , TUT are still top of the table with 10 wins, NWU moved to second place (8 points) while UWC (4th placed), UJ (5th place) and UP-Tuks are all on  7 points. CUT (6 points) and UKZN (2 points) occupy 7th and 8th place respectively.
